Training

Well I haven't posted anything here for a while now, but thought I would start to update more regularly now that I am training for a 15K race this summer. That's right, the fat guy is going to run July 4th in a 15K race in San Diego.
I started training 6 weeks ago with the help of Dan Simpson who works w/ me at CCV. He's got me running 3 days a week. The program is all based on time and heart rate. Today I just finished my longest run so far. It was 52 minutes and I help my heart rate right around 138. I think I ran just under 5 miles so I'm obviously not running very fast, but I'm running and starting to really enjoy it.
Why run a race? Because I needed an event or goal to work toward in regards of being healthy. To diet and starve myself just for the joy of losing a pound or two at a time just wasn't working. The challenge of a race with a date on the calendar is much more motivating. When I started 6 weeks ago I could run for 12 minutes so the progress has been quick and tangible!
I'll start updating more often as you will want to see how a fat guy can actually pull this off.
